Here’s your post-sale checklist:
Before Closing Day
These steps will help avoid last-minute surprises:
✔️ Arrange utility cancellations or transfers (gas, hydro, water, internet, etc.) effective the day after possession
✔️ Gather all spare keys, fobs, remotes, and access cards for the new owner
✔️ Check in with your lawyer or notary to confirm closing day logistics and funds transfer
✔️ Schedule movers or rental truck if you haven’t already
✔️ Start packing early, beginning with non-essentials
✔️ Label all boxes clearly to help with unpacking later
✔️ On or Right After Closing Day
✔️ Once your sale closes, take care of the following:
✔️ Double check that utilities are off or transferred as requested
✔️ Take photos of meter readings (just in case)
✔️ Drop off or leave behind manuals, warranties, and instruction guides for appliances staying with the home
Update your address with:
✔️ Driver’s license & vehicle registration
✔️ Canada Post (set up mail forwarding)
